The Four Golden Rules of Dental Health

Poor oral health risks decay, infections, gum disease, and chronic inflammation. Here are four golden rules for good oral hygiene you should always embrace.

Brush Twice Daily Using Fluoride Toothpaste

A dentist will tell you that you should brush twice daily, for no less than two minutes each session. Consider brushing in the morning and before heading to bed. Use a soft-bristled brush and fluoride toothpaste.

Clean Between Teeth

The areas between teeth, referred to as interdental spaces, prove difficult to clean with a regular toothbrush. As such, you can try options like floss, water flossers, and interdental brushes. Cleaning between teeth sweeps away bacteria, biofilm, and bits of food collecting in those spaces.

Visit the Dentist Regularly

Making trips to the dental office for routine checkups and dental cleanings is paramount. It helps remove tartar, biofilm, and deposits that you miss with regular at-home brushing and flossing. It also helps brings out any dental issues that are beginning to set in so that they are addressed early on.

Eat and Drink Healthy

Consume sugar moderately because it is a culprit for tooth decay. Also, drink water since it helps keep the mouth hydrated and prevents a dry mouth condition. Further, eat foods rich in calcium since they build up bone. A healthy diet goes a long way in promoting dental health.

Can Diet Soda Harm Your Dental Health?
If you are seeking a substitute for soda, you might be thinking that diet options are a good choice. Although diet sodas are said to have zero sugar and few calories, what you might not know is that they are still acidic. Every time you sip that sugar-free soda, know that you might be eroding the enamel, the way full-sugar options do. Diet sodas contain dark food coloring likely to cause a yellowish hue, thus staining the teeth. Look for alternatives like water and milk. Talk to us if you are concerned about the types of drinks you consume and how they could be impacting your oral health.

Sugary Food and Drinks: The Rule of Moderation in Dental Health

Many foods and beverages we consume are an enemy to our oral health. We are often advised to keep the things we crave in moderation to promote our oral and general health. Cutting out sugary items and acidic beverages from our diet can be quite challenging. According to the CDC, many surveys indicate that about 49 percent of adults consume one or several sugar-sweetened beverages every day such as soda, energy drinks, coffee, and juice. These beverages can wear out the enamel over time. As such, you should consume them in moderation if you do not stop consuming them completely.
